Inclement weather, seemingly endless hours at the wheel, ever changing schedules (particularly depending on your backhaul), never being home for quite long enough for your spouse, children and pets; fatigue, constantly in a sitting position and eating at fast food places and truck stop diners; all of these can be contributing factors to the strain of being a trucker—particularly if you are a long hauler.
A Fort Worth Trucker’s Plight
A long hauler in the Fort Worth area has had to work with a divorce lawyer in Ft. Worth twice in his life… So far. Why? Long hours on the road can equate to a spouse left at home, all alone and lonely. Lonely spouses sometimes seek the attention of others in ways that are not conducive to a solid marriage. You can’t always spend that much time away from home and constantly expect everything to be the same every time you return. People are after all, only human.
The Trucker’s Schedule
If trucking is in your blood and you want to maintain your marriage, you may want to try and do your runs either together as a couple; or at least try for as regular of a schedule is you can get, with predetermined hours that bring you home at night and on weekends.
Long haulers may make more money, but the strain on their marriage may not be worth the cost.
